The David A. Kribs Wood Collection, North Carolina State University, Raleigh

The xylarium (PACw) was founded in 1925, and has about 32,000 specimens of 2,500 genera and 4,000 microscope slides. There are samples and sections of collections of Cretaceous-Tertiary fossil woods associated with the collection. The Inside Wood (http://insidewood.lib.ncsu.edu/search?4) project was initialed based on the wood collections.

Madison (MADw) Collection, United States Department of Agriculture, U.S.A.

The MADw collection was born one day after the formal opening of the Forest Products Laboratory, USDA Forest Service, in June 1910. Nowadays the collections have grown to nearly 50,000 specimens. Wood Collection of the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History, U.S.A.

The Wood Collection contains ca. 42,500 specimens representing almost 3000 genera. Approximately 5000 microscope slides are associated with the Wood Collection. Much, but not all, of the data in these files are being made available electronically in the Wood Collection database. The xylarium (VLw) has 7,500 specimens of genera and 300 microscope slides, which was founded in 1948. The collection is jointly administered by Forest Products Innovation.
